The Mandelbrot Team Play
Traditionally one test each year is devoted to Euclidian geometry. Other topics can run the gamut from unexpected properties of Pythagorean triples to a nice result on how to obtain all possible batting averages. The sample Team Play test below investigates a deceptively simple sequence of positive odd integers. We always love to hear of clever alternate solutions or extensions, as well as original problems of your own. Tell us about them from the Dialogue page.

One of the 1998-99 Individual Test has been released as an additional sample Mandelbrot Competition test. It is somewhat easier than the national level tests and a bit harder than the regional level tests. Answers are printed upside-down at the bottom of the test. Click here to download the sample test. If you desire detailed solutions, you may order The Mandelbrot Problem Book from the Resources page. For assistance viewing and printing the test, visit the Download Help Center. |
