MANDELBROT Greater Testing Concepts
.......

Welcome to Greater Testing Concepts, now in its nineteenth year of producing excellent mathematical resources for teachers and students in the United States and around the world. We believe that problem solving is one of the most effective means of exploring the world of mathematics, and that contests provide an exciting and motivational setting in which to do so.

Greater Testing Concepts offers two contests at the high school level. The first is the Mandelbrot Competition, which adheres to a short answer format and takes place in five rounds spread throughout the school year. The range of questions and topics is designed to engage students with only a modest background in problem solving while still stretching the best students in the country. The second is the Mandelbrot Team Play, emphasizing mathematical writing skills and effective group work. This contest is held in three rounds during the winter months to help advanced students prepare for events such as the USAMO.

For a further description of the contests and an overview of the web site, please visit the Introduction page. Answers to all of your questions can be found through Information, while sample tests and other preparation materials are available at the Resources page. You are then welcome to Register for the 2008–2009 Mandelbrot Competition. Finally, as you browse the web site don't hesitate to send us comments or questions from the Dialogue page.
